How to Prepare for a Claude Certification

By AI7x7 Editorial · Published 4 November 2026 · Last reviewed 4 November 2026 · 8 min read

The same method works for all four Claude certifications because they share a design: criterion-referenced, scenario-leaning, multiple choice and multiple response, with domain weights published in advance. Here is the method in five steps, with the reasons behind each.

1. Read the exam guide before anything else

Each certification has an official PDF exam guide listing the domains, weights, task statements, recommended experience, scoring and policies. It is short and it is the blueprint. Read it twice: once for the shape, once to mark every task statement you have never done hands-on. Those marks are your study plan.

2. Budget time by weight

Weights are not decoration. Associate puts 21% on evaluating outputs; Developer puts 33.1% on applications and integration; Architect – Foundations puts 27% on orchestration; Architect – Professional puts 19% on integration and 16% on evaluation. Give the heaviest domain your first and your last session. Give the lightest one session. Resist spending days on the topic you enjoy if it is 3% of the exam.

3. Do the thing, don't read about it

Every task statement describes an action: configure a Project, enforce a JSON schema, write a hook, design a RAG pipeline, run discovery. The exam asks what you would do in a situation, and people who have done it answer faster and more accurately than people who have read about it. Keep a scratch project. For Architect – Foundations, build miniature versions of the six published scenarios.

4. Sit a timed practice exam before you feel ready

A practice exam early in preparation is a diagnostic; late, it is a rehearsal. Do both. The AI7x7 free exams give a domain breakdown so the diagnostic is specific. Do not read the practice percentage as a prediction — official exams use a 720 scaled score set through standard-setting, and no practice score converts to it — but do act on the domain ranking.

5. Learn the item style

Multiple-response items state how many options to select; selecting the wrong number is the most common avoidable error. Distractors tend to be real techniques applied where the scenario's constraints make them wrong, so read constraints (regulation, latency, scale, audience, budget) as carefully as the question. Our list of common mistakes covers the rest.

Logistics that trip people up

  • Registration is via the Anthropic Partner Academy; the exam is scheduled through Pearson VUE afterwards, online (OnVUE) or at a test centre.
  • Your Pearson name must match your government ID exactly. Fix mismatches with Anthropic's certification support before scheduling.
  • Reschedule or cancel at least 24 hours ahead or the fee is forfeited.
  • Three exams update on 7 December 2026; check which guide version applies to your test date.

A realistic timeline

With the recommended experience already in place: 7 days for Associate or Developer, 14 for either Architect exam, at 60–120 minutes a day. Each certification page has a day-by-day plan: Associate, Developer, Architect – Foundations, Architect – Professional.
